My Philosophy

Whichever coaching service of mine you choose, social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) support is always at its heart. My coaching approach is holistic, focusing on the whole child, and I truly believe that academic development is only possible once all primary SEMH needs are addressed first. My sessions are inclusive and suitable for everyone. Without fail they’re challenging and inspiring… and always entertaining.

I’m a strong advocate of using drama to support and nurture the mental health of the students in my care, giving them space to ask questions they feel they can’t ask in other environments. Having the freedom to stretch their understanding and practise how to deal with the world before it deals with them is a hugely important part of growing up.

Some SEMH principles I include in my coaching sessions are:

  • Sensory processing
  • Use of language
  • De-escalation
  • Restorative approaches
  • Emotional regulation
  • Management of anxiety and change
  • Solution-focused improvisation
  • Development of positive relationships, social skills and friendships
  • Imagination exercises for self-development
  • Confidence and personality engagement
  • Self-expression

My sessions have a strong focus on oral language skills to:

  • build self-esteem and confidence
  • identify communication strengths and needs
  • develop an understanding of language
  • explore spoken language
  • discover pragmatic language
  • improve social communication skills
  • develop emotional literacy and regulation.
